Why does the city want backflow assemblies tested?
For residential customers they want the irrigation backflow assembly tested because it prevents contaminants from irrigation systems and pools from being siphoned back into the drinking water.
For businesses they want them to have the domestic assemblies tested every year, these assemblies prevent back siphonage into the water supply from things like mop buckets, or any other things hoses can be put in.
These assemblies have rubber gaskets and springs that can go bad or weaken over time.
